Beginner's Guide to Reading Asian and European Odds

If you're new to sports betting, understanding odds can be confusing. Let's break down the two main types: Asian and European odds.

Asian Odds (Handicap)

Asian odds, also known as Asian handicap, eliminate the possibility of a draw by giving one team a virtual head start. For example, if Team A has a -1 handicap, they must win by 2 or more goals for you to win your bet. If they win by exactly 1, your stake is refunded. This type is popular in football and offers more balanced betting. The odds are usually displayed as decimals, like 1.90.

European Odds (1X2)

European odds, or 1X2, are simpler: you bet on a home win (1), draw (X), or away win (2). The odds are also in decimal format. For instance, odds of 2.50 mean you'll get ₱2.50 for every ₱1 you bet, including your stake. This is straightforward but includes the draw option. As a beginner, start with European odds for easy understanding, then explore Asian handicaps as you gain confidence. Always check the odds before placing a bet.
